Andreas Kronthaler On His Favourite Vivenne Westwood Suit

If there was one thing to take away from the AW26 shows, it’s that brands are betting big on tailoring. Suits were everywhere. In plenty of different shades and guises, yes, but the overarching mood was to smarten things up. We thought it would be a good time, then, to ask some of menswear’s brightest talents to pose for 10 in their own suits – some chose looks of their own design, while others rooted through their wardrobes to find their beloved formal gear from other brands. Aren’t they a dapper bunch?

ANDREAS KRONTHALER, creative director, Vivienne Westwood

A suit doesn’t have to be drab, especially when it’s coming from Vivienne Westwood. Andreas Kronthaler knows his way around a great suit. His menswear show in Milan in June 2025 was chock-full of them. Jackets with line backer shoulders and trousers that were hiked high above the ankle or with big swinging crotches. A uniform for a modern dandy.

Tell us about your suit.

It’s got a bit of a shoulder – just like me. It’s in blue, and I wear it with a shirt increpe de chine. I love these two qualities together. How did you come to own it? It’s the latest suit I designed, and therefore I like it the most right now.

Why do you like wearing it?

It gives the day a certain formality which you need sometimes.

Where do you wear the suit?

Where it is most unexpected, even to the supermarket.

How should a great suit make you feel?

I will never forget the feeling when I first wore a proper suit. What I remember most and describe it best is that I felt like a man. A real man – that I am a grown-up and mean business.
