Kazumi Arikawa, the driving force behind the Albion Art Jewellery Institute in Tokyo, believes beautiful jewels have a spiritual quality. “There are moments when one feels overwhelmed by the thought that human beings are capable of creating something so profoundly beautiful,” he says. We profile this jewellery devotee and his collection, which is widely acknowledged as the most important private assemblage of historic jewels in the world, spanning 5,000 years of history, from Mesopotamia to the 1950s.
