How do you bottle 25 years of creativity? That was the question 10’s global editor-in-chief Sophia Neophitou and Azzi Glasser – the award-winning perfumer behind The Perfumer’s Story – had to answer when creating 10 Magazine Eau de Parfum. A perfumer to the stars (Glasser has crafted scents for actors like Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp whilst they prep for roles on the silver screen), building characterful, transportive scents is a skill Glasser has long honed. Turning her magic touch to a fragrance celebrating over two decades of our wonderful 10 universe, Neophitou became her muse.
The limited-edition, unisex fragrance blended the editor’s preference for elegance with woody undertones reminiscent of a cologne her father used to wear. “Creating 10 Magazine Eau de Parfum was very personal because my associations with smell have always been about memory,” says Neophitou. Pairing base notes of red sequoia wood, vetiver absolute and Himalayan cedarwood with warmer, lighter that reminded Neophitou of her mother – saffron, pepper and white peach – 10 Magazine Eau de Parfum was born. As well as tapping into her childhood, Neophitou wanted the scent to represent the breadth of 10’s content. “I was trying to achieve that balance of masculine and feminine which very much represents what we do at 10 Magazine,” she says.
To celebrate the launch of the perfume, we headed over to The Dorchester this morning for a scrummy spread. In attendance was an intimate collection of fragrance fanatics and 10 Towers family members. Sarah Mower, Val Garland, Anders Christian Madsen and 10‘s global fashion director Karen Binns all showed up and sniffed in support, along with beauty It-girls like Mikai McDermott, Lola Clark and Emilia Silberg. With the generous support of Omoss, a fresh, seamoss-based drink that’s brimming with nutrients and health benefits, we sipped, nibbled and listened as Sophia and Azzi spoke about the making of the perfume.
