Introducing 10+ Issue 8 – Future, Jubilee, Celebration – Read The Editor’s Letter

Tis the season of decadence, drama and delights, and what better a way to celebrate than with the new issue of 10+. Limited-edition and available in both a beautifully crafted boxazine and an elegant, packaged magazine format, our eighth issue is a celebration of 10’s 25th year. 10+ includes a 284-page magazine, a series of five A1 posters and a dedicated jewellery and watches supplement. Our first cover spotlights the unstoppable Beth Ditto.

Every fierce frontwoman needs her war paint. For Beth Ditto, the legendary lead of radical rock trio Gossip, it’s beauty savant Andrew Gallimore who she’s trusted with painting her face for nearly two decades. Both fans of a thin brow, a severe winged eye and lashes with spider leg length, they’ve remained one of the most loyal pairings in punk. Working alongside photographer Rob Rusling and hairstylist Eugene Souleiman for the issue, Gallimore transforms Ditto into a Otto Dix painting, if it was vandalised by Nina Hagen. The result is anarchically sublime. Want to know the method behind the madness? After the shoot, the duo let us into the workings of their collaborative process. Read the full conversation here.

What an amazing year of celebrations we have had! We marked the 25th anniversary of 10 with two spectacular parties. In London, 800 people joined us at Sael in St James’s Market, many spilling out onto the courtyard, where we toasted and celebrated till the small hours. We also had another equally fabulous party in Paris with my dear friend Rene Celestin of OBO fame, whose joint 25th birthday we marked together in the magical City of Light.

The jubilee celebrations don’t stop there. We are working on a documentary on our 25th year of 10 that tracks a year in our lives and takes in all our fashion adventures. It is filmed and edited by the amazing and talented Louis Hollis and will be out next year. And finally, we are launching a limited-edition eau de parfum with Azzi Glasser’s The Perfumer Story called, you guessed it, 10. The unisex scent is inspired by the memories of my parents that I carry with me every day (read about it on page 24). This jam-packed year has been a wonderful way to reflect on all we have achieved along this quarter-of-a-century adventure. We now have 10 and 10 Men Australia, 10 USA, 10 Japan, 10 Deutsch and, launching next year, 10 Men USA.

Honestly, I’d never have believed all those years ago that we could have grown and blossomed to this point. To hear and see so many new 10 voices appear globally fills me with a real sense of achievement.

I am so proud to know that we can have their unique viewpoints within our DNA, dotted everywhere. It feels like the perfect reward for 25 years of hard work and focus. My teams are all dear and special friends first, who I have entrusted to give life to these global editions. They have exceeded my expectations, breathing life into the 10 universe and reflecting where they were born.

I’m also celebrating my own milestone birthday. I turn 60 years young this month. I feel so very lucky that I have had this life journey, filled with family and friends that I love with all my heart and have shared my path. I have carved a creative life for myself and built a 10 universe that consistently surprises and inspires me, and I hope will do the same for others.

Every issue, that creative world expands. It was a joy to work with the brilliant musician Beth Ditto and make-up artist Andrew Gallimore. The pair have been collaborators for 18 years and the level of trust they bring to everything they do together manifests as total creative freedom that, photographed by Rob Rusling, bursts off the page (p66). This issue also celebrates another inspiring duo, Juergen Teller and his wife and creative partner Dovile Drizyte (p242). Teller is celebrating his career so far with a major exhibition in Athens, which doesn’t separate his fashion work from his artistic and personal projects. They come from the same place. I loved what he said when asked what he hopes people will get from the show: “A deep sense of adventure. Hopefully, they feel inspired about their own life and making their own choices.”

I share that hope for our 10+ readers. Twenty-five years in the making, the 10 universe is a very treasured place. In the years ahead, I want to continue to build a social and creative ecosystem, one that is founded on a shared obsession of making worlds that immerse us and take us on a path we could never have imagined. That’s the dream! I feel lucky that I get to live mine every day.
