Vaquera: Ready-To-Wear SS26

For the joy of dressing! Vaquera’s Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee are well-versed in creating scene-stealing clothes. The twosome don’t deal in demure. They’re more interested in over-the-top fashion, the sort of clothes that are fabulously in your face and make no apology for doing so.

After showing in Paris for the last couple of seasons, the brand officially relocated to the city from New York this summer. They’d been thinking about what makes good or bad taste when it comes to dressing. “[Paris is] iconically the centre of ‘good taste’. But what does that mean? When you start to see the world through our lens, you realise that these categories don’t exist,” wrote the pair in their show notes.

Followed by the glow of a spotlight, they sent out an Eighties-style prom dress that frothed with bridal lace and graffitied fabric that were chaotically mashed together. A second larger-than-life dress, worn by the singer Ashnikko, was doused a sugary pink and built with linebacker shoulders, a giant corsage was proudly plonked on the shoulder. These were great, but where Vaquera shines, however, is the brand’s ability to sprinkle this sort of extra-ness across seriously wearable pieces. Like equestrian hats paired with power suits worn sans shirt (Vaquera-branded suspenders will suffice). Or square-shouldered denim jackets styled with puff-bull miniskirts. A lot of looks came anchored with the pair’s first collaboration with Nike which sees the Air Max Dn8 littered in cherry red kisses, while tongue-in-cheek tees and pinafore skirts were part of an upcoming collaboration with Japanese label Moussy.

Dress codes don’t exist in the world of Vaquera. Or as the designers brilliantly put themselves: “There is only the right place and right time to wear something. The Vaquera girl realises the power of the most exciting scenario: wearing the wrong thing at the right time.”
