Festival season is firmly underway, which means the annual wardrobe juggle begins: something light for the heat, something waterproof for the inevitable downpour. Luckily, Burberry has both covered. In its latest campaign, Sunny With a Chance of Rain, the brand takes to the fields with a cross-generational line-up of festival pros across music, modelling and television – Liam Gallagher, Goldie, Cara Delevingne, Alexa Chung, Seungmin and Loyle Carner among them – and delivers a festival edit that’s part nostalgia trip, part weatherproof (and Burberry-checked) kit list.
Shot on a full-scale set with fogged-up tents, wired speakers and flashes of sun between showers, Daniel Lee’s capsule captures the chaos and charm of the British weekender in all its muddy, euphoric and never knowingly overdressed glory. Think streaked eyeliner, zipped fleeces, bare legs and parkas flapping like flags in the breeze.
Cut with archive and fresh footage, it’s a nostalgic nod to hedonistic summers’ past: all haze, highs and handheld memories. Sweet Harmony by Liquid thrums in the background. Denim skirts hitch above rubber boots. There’s a rhythm to it all candid, carefree and entirely in its element.
The wardrobe matches the mood. Packable capes and rubberised trenches take on the downpours, while gauzy shirts, mini kilts and fleeces keep things breezy when the clouds lift. Burberry Check shows up everywhere – on bikini straps, tied at the waist, slung over shoulders. Leather jackets and coated parkas emerge for the after-hours cool-down, while accessories bring character: silver frogs, horse charms, shield crests and rainwear-inspired crossbodies – puffed, practical and built for the elements.
Elsewhere, footwear covers all terrains: Burberry Check marsh boots for ankle-deep mud, chunky clogs for stomping about and Britpop-era sneakers like the Matrix and Terrace for everything in between. Whether you’re dodging puddles or basking in rare sun, it’s all built to last the weekend (and the weather).
