“The paradox of lightness through craftsmanship,” was the message pumped into Nadège Vanhée’s latest Hermès outing, which served as a celebration of the creativity at the heart of the maison’s atelier. The craftspeople at Hermès are some of the most talented working in the luxury field, and the designer wanted to highlight the “palpable touch of the artisan” through the collection itself.
“The atelier as the space of creation, of optimism, of absorption: late to bed, back before the sun rises. Style as something ceaselessly crafted, forged, timeless and unique,” wrote Vanhée in her show notes. Despite the immense work that goes into creating a collection, there’s always an easygoingness present in the designer’s work, accentuated here through the use of semi-opaque layers. Lightweight leather jackets walked alongside trousers and skirts that unzipped right up the leg, while low-slung skirts and double-waisted trousers came paired with casual sports bras.
In a muted palette of beige, cream and khaki, with an injection of hot pink coming slap bang in the middle of the show, the subtly sporty, quietly sensual wardrobe came accompanied by a stellar family of accessories. Most notably clogged candles and a reversed Birkin, which came with its details displayed on the outside; a must-have for Hermès lovers globally.
