Following Kenzo’s AW23 collection, which saw Nigo merge traditional Japanese design from the brand’s archive with American preppy staples, the designer continues to draw on Ivy League hallmarks with his latest capsule collection.
Dubbed Kenzo Varsity Jungle, the collection is focused on two graphics, an elephant and a tiger, the former being Kenzo Takada’s favourite animal, while the latter has been a house insignia since 1975.
Building upon his distinct design lexicon for the house – which has also been inspired by American utility wear from the 1930s and British subcultural style through the ‘80s – Nigo has envisioned an elephant graphic inspired by sailor tattoos from the 1950s, seen across tees, embroidered jumpers, and varsity-style cardies. The tiger also receives a similar treatment, with the graphic adopting a vintage-style finish.
In a campaign lensed by Frank Lebon, Nigo invites members of Kenzo’s cross-generational community to flaunt the new togs, which are prepped and primed to give your wardrobe a good zhuzh up now the the sun’s finally made an appearance. Wahay!
