How do you take your coffee? With oat? Regular milk? Perhaps with a splash of seriously good fashun? Tired-eyed, latte-carrying fashion editors weren’t the only caffeinated beings at the 16Arlington show. A pool of coffee grounds formed the set for the brand’s latest collection, Wake, wafting a familiar odor into the air. Built on “duality and transparencies,” as noted in a press release, designer Marco Capaldo moved further away from the brand’s party dress beginnings, as the 16Arlington girl steps off the dancefloor and into everyday life.
The sequin-frosted frocks, brief hemlines and skimpy, feather-laced going-out garb is still part of the brand’s handwriting. But here, the real show-stoppers were chocolate brown faux furs, shimmery mohair knits, and boxy, croc-effect skirts and jackets. Capaldo offered a new, supersized iteration of the brand’s Kikka bag (named after Capaldo’s late partner, and 16Arlington co-founder Kikka Cavenati, who tragically passed away in 2021) and introduced menswear into the brand’s arsenal (a black overcoat with rounded shoulders was a highlight).
It’s clear that Capaldo is keen to evolve the brand to dress a wide-spanning clientele, who can wear their purchases to the pub, to the club, and out on their morning Pret run, with ease.
