10 Questions with Fousheé, As She Releases Her New Single “Clap For Him”

Have you ever wondered what a mixture of SZA and Björk would sound like? Fousheé is the answer. The New Jersey-born artist has set the industry ablaze with her soulful R&B tracks full of self-love, self-care, and pure female empowerment. After nabbing industry acclaim for her breakout hit “Deep End” – which currently has over 179 million streams on Spotify – Fousheé is the first Black female artist to break the Top 10 at Alternative Radio in 32 years (following in the footsteps Tracey Chapman, no less).

The viral artist is set to take the charts once more with her latest single, “Clap For Him” featuring Lil Yachty. The hazy track comes from her soul-rooted debut full-length project Time Machine, which was met with rave reviews, with Pitchfork penning: “the singer-songwriter arrives on her own terms with a debut that flits effortlessly between guitar-based soul, alt-pop, and R&B”.

Aside from being a stellar vocal talent to look out for, it goes without saying Fousheé is a fashion force not to be ignored, too – describing her style as “always evolving. nostalgic, alt, corky. Alien with a sprinkle of hood.” In the midst of her busy schedule, we grabbed this rising star for a quick chat about her music, fashion and her plans for the year ahead.

1. Who is Fousheé?

“Foushee is a Jersey-born & bred alt-soul singer with a golden fro and an electric guitar.”

2. When was the last time you watched a movie that made you cry?

A Little Princess always makes me cry. First time I watched it I was probably like six. I repeated it on a flight recently and cried my eyes out.”

3. How would you describe your personal style in a sentence?

“Always evolving. nostalgic, alt, corky, alien with a sprinkle of hood.”

4. How would you describe your debut full-length project, Time Machine?

“Good music without all the distracting bells and whistles. Nostalgic songwriting structures. Very alt-leaning but soulful at the root.”

5. If you could be anywhere in the world now, where would it be and why?

“The moon. It seems very peaceful and bright there. You get the best view of the stars from there, no petty earth issues just vibes.”

6. What’s your favourite piece in your wardrobe right now?

“This brown, baby blue & white leather Avirex jacket I found at a thrift store, a very rare find. It kinda has a cropped fit. I want to wear it every day.”

7. You had Lil Wayne featuring in your single ‘Goldfronts’, as well as Lil Yachty on “Clap For Him” – who else is your dream collaborator?

“Working with Pharrell would be nuts.”

8. What’s the first song you learned on guitar?

“Frank Ocean’s “Ivy” 🥺

9. What’s one new skill you want to learn before the year’s done?

“I want to pick up producing. I do a little now and it’s cool but I mean like really master it. A self-produced album would make me so proud of myself.”

10. What are you most excited to do when the world goes back to normal?

“I’m excited for concerts and my lipgloss not sticking to my mask anymore.”
