It’s been a strange year for fashion, to say the least. The dashing men we’re used to seeing at shows, press appointments and late-night fashion-week parties have been confined to their humble abodes. So, for the inaugural Inside 10, we stepped into the homes of some of the industry’s most adored gentlemen – on a quest to discover how they really live. Expect lavish art, fancy sofas and, of course, handsome looks pulled from the SS21 collections. Next up is fashion power couple Gary Armstrong (stylist and senior fashion editor of GQ Style) and Emanuele Sangaletti (Dior Men’s PR Manager), who both wear Dior.
What’s your most prized possession in your home?
Gary Armstrong: “That’s a hard one as, like Ariel in The Little Mermaid, I love all of my things, but I think our coffee table might be my most prized. It was given to us by my grandmother and it reminds me of childhood, playing Scrabble and eating sandwiches with her.”
Emanuele Sangaletti: “My Gohonzon, which is my Buddhist shrine. It’s been keeping me grounded, sane and positive since 2011.”
What dream item would make your home all that more special?
GA: “I’m kind of always looking for bits and pieces to improve our space – one week we absolutely must have a humidifier, the next a new armchair. I’m currently on the hunt for new lamps, but in reality, I think the dream item for this house would be an extra room to house our wardrobe. We have to be strategic, let’s say, to make it work right now.”
ES: “I can’t think of a dream item that would make our home even greater, but I can definitely think of a dream extra space that would do the trick. Living in London has its pros and cons, and one of the cons, I have always felt, is the small size of the apartments. At the moment, daily life functions so that every room has a double or triple use. A kitchen can be an office and a gym too. So my dream would be not to spend time converting rooms from one function to the other. If that’s not possible, would a roof terrace with heated pool work?”
What’s the key to keeping your humble abode a happy one?
GA: “In the past year, like everyone else, we have barely left these four walls, but we have managed to coexist and work alongside one another quite smoothly, all things considered! We try to have fun every day – it sounds corny AF but it is really important at this point. The thing that has made our home extra-happy and even more fun is the addition of our new child, our miniature poodle Allan, who has brought a whole new dynamic to our days. We are obsessed! Sadly we got him after we had our portrait taken for this, but actually he would have upstaged us both.”
ES: “Especially at the moment, I think the key is having understanding of each other. We have gone from travelling the globe to being in lockdown in our homes for so long. It’s only normal the spirits might not always be at their best, which is why having an understanding of the other person does help with positive home living. And to get a puppy, yes! It creates a form of magic that’s unachievable otherwise.”
