Since the beginning of the pandemic, Sarah Burton has streamlined her men’s and women’s Alexander McQueen collections with effortless ease. Her two teams have been working side-by-side, making tomboy-esque womenswear and men’s staples with feminine flourishes. This season sees Burton keep her focus pinned on silhouette. Double-breasted tuxedo jackets, made from sublime scuba wool, are sculpted at the waist and rounded at the shoulder; adorned with crystal-beaded doves, hearts and sun motifs. These talismans come dotted throughout the collection, whether it be on chunky cashmere knits belted into pleated peg trousers, or collarless poplin shirts, worn with worker boots with a slightly curled toe.
Similar to the brand’s pre-fall 2021 collection, which was unveiled last week, Burton has hybridised a cohort of looks, most notably a classic denim jacket merged with a khaki workwear jacket. As always, outwear is particularly strong, with a cropped MA1 bomber stamped with a graffitied “McQueen” on the back proving to be a collection highlight. For those looking to dress up and show off once we’ve unleashed out into the normal world again, a Klein blue twinset is your best bet, which comes with a matching crossbody bag, too. Au revoir loungewear, you won’t be missed.
