Adidas Gets The Lotta Volkova Touch With a Nostalgic Collaboration

Although you might not know it yet, Lotta Volkova has probably influenced at least one thing in your wardrobe right now. It wouldn’t even be a stretch to assume she has inspired something you’re currently wearing. The stylist extraordinaire has been an essential figure in Demna Gvasalia’s post-Soviet ‘normcore’ vision for Vetements, and elevated later at Balenciaga. Volkova was at the side of Gvasalia from the beginning, not only styling his shows but was both in charge of the casting and actually sauntered down the catwalk herself quite a few times. Going on to work with the likes of Mulberry, Marc Jacobs and Kanye West, as well as styling a slew of editorials in magazines across the globe, Volkova has firmly cemented herself as one of the industry’s leading image makers.

Now she’s about to add another accolade to her already lengthy CV. Volkova has teamed up with sportswear giant Adidas on a capsule collection inspired by the brand’s beginnings. Before becoming a leading image-maker in the industry, Volkova actually began her career as a designer. She launched a menswear label dubbed Lotta Skeletrix back in 2004 after studying at Central Saint Martins, which was even stocked at Dover Street Market London. Putting on her design cap once more, Volkova told Vogue that she looked to some of “the earliest pieces of clothing Adidas ever produced,” including the brand’s first tracksuit which inspired a lime green and yellow two-piece created by the stylist. Adidas actually approached Volkova around two years ago about working on a project together, spawning into an entire collection that includes wedged heels, three-striped leg warmers and a sugary pink bowling bag fitted with a front pocket in the shape of a table tennis racket. What’s not to love?

The Lotta Volkova x Adidas collection is available online and in select stores August 13.
