Fastest British Woman in History Dina Asher-Smith Gets Her Own Barbie

Not only is she the fastest British woman in recorded history and a proud owner of many a gold medal – Dina Asher-Smith has now also been turned into a Barbie Doll. This time last year, we saw model Adowa Aboah, team up with Mattel on her own version of everyone’s favourite doll as part of their Shero project, inspiring limitless potential in every child by celebrating successful and talented women. Adding her incredible talent to the portfolio of powerful women that already includes the likes of Nicola Adams, Ashley Graham and Frida Kahlo, Asher-Smith is the brand’s latest Shero, announced just ahead of International Women’s day.

Barbie’s current efforts to close The Dream Gap is focusing on female role models within sport. “Growing up, sportswomen were less visible in the media and there is still a gap when it comes to women’s sports, which is why representation is so important” says Asher-Smith who wants her doll to champion future generations in gaining confidence through sports. The initiative is also harmoniously coinciding with the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to happen this coming summer. According to Mattel, research shows that when girls play sports, they report higher levels of confidence, which in turn breaks down barriers to girl’s self-belief. So with the task of Barbie becoming “the most diverse fashion doll in the world.” who is all about empowering women, we’re saluting Asher-Smith and encouraging everyone to get themselves on the race track, regardless of your age. Who knows, you might even get a Barbie modelled after you one day…
