There is a time and a place for frivolity in fashion, but the quotidian and essential is what serves as the base of every wardrobe. Luckily, this earth has been blessed with Kim Jones who, in his role as the artistic director of Dior’s menswear collections, has created Essentials, a meticulously curated collection of everyday staples. Playing true to the definition of the word “essential,” each piece is assiduously well-considered, whilst the timeless and season-less nature of the clothes distils the spirit of the House’s signature silhouette and codes established by Christian Dior himself.
In classic cuts and colours, pieces range from tailoring to sportswear via shirting, jewellery, outerwear, knitwear, leather and denim. The collection has all you need for conquering every occasion and whatever life might throw at you. It’s the kind of capsule wardrobe neither Gok Wan nor Trinny Woodall could even dream of. When it comes to craft the attention to detail is of the utmost (what more would you expect from Monsieur Jones?). We’re talking Japanese denim (with a selvedge woven with the Dior logo), fine cashmere, poplin, and subtle Dior motifs. Look out for the embroidered bees, the Dior cipher, the cross-hatched-Cannage motif etched onto buttons and the Dior Oblique monogram subtly popping up throughout. Move over Waitrose, we got a new favourite essentials range.
