The world can never have enough of Chanel. Making sure this nightmare never becomes a reality, the French house are keeping their retail presence strong. The latest refresh is standing tall at 167 – 169 Sloane Street in London, where Chanel have re-opened their long-standing Chelsea boutique. Refurbished with a fresh new look and hosting the just-in Métiers d’art Paris-New York collection inspired by Ancient Egypt, the 490 square metres represent pure, unadulterated luxury. It’s the Chanel way after all. In addition to the ready-to-wear and accessories, handbags, shoes, costume jewellery and eyewear, the store also offers a selection of exclusive watches and fine jewellery. In case you’re not on the market for a diamond Camélia ring, there’s a selection of delicious fragrances which will make any old outfit look a little bit more French.
As with all Chanel boutiques, this one was designed by the house’s long-term collaborator and the coolest leather daddy in the world, architect Peter Marino. Like a piece of the big puzzle, the store continues the story Mademoiselle Coco in Rue Cambon back in 1910. A dedication to nurturing arts within the space is proven by including the abstract works of Robert Greene and Peter Dayton along with special commissions by Matthias Bitzer, Richard Caldicott, Bruno Gambone and Curtis Jere. The highlight must be the One Thousand Women installation by Allan McCollum which features one thousand plaques, each engraved with the most popular female birth names at the turn of the decade. Forget about the Saatchi – this is the chicest gallery in West London. But instead of a postcard or a pen, you can take home a pair of gold leather knee-high boots. Where do we sign up?
