Maryam Nassir Zadeh: Ready-To-Wear AW19

Maryam Nassir Zadeh designs the kind of clothes that make you excited about getting dressed in the morning. Fun and flirty, yet effortlessly wearable, totally covetable and a true extension of Zadeh’s signature style. The AW19 collection attested to the unashamed passion for clothes, a tongue-in-cheek contempt of “fashion” and to the joy of dressing up; which she often captures both herself and her daughters doing on her Instagram stories.

With a background in textiles, fabrications are Zadeh’s USP and, as you might expect, textures ran in delightfully rife throughout. There were twills, silks, leather, fringing, croc, Lycra and lace, all styled by Haley Wollens with an effortlessly anything’s goes attitude. The long pleated skirts, waistcoat and mismatch of cotton, corduroy and subtle plaids evoked an Annie Hall wardrobe fantasy. Whilst outerwear was delightfully 80s inspired, a slouchy oversized blue leather jacket, a shearling coat and a multicoloured tie-die puffer jacket especially spoke to her love of thrifting.

The casting was a line up of Zadeh’s friends and familiar faces including Hailey Benton Gates, Susan Cianciolo, Lorna Foran, Lili Sumner and Ten’s Issue 61 cover star Paloma Elsesser; who was dressed in an aquatic-coloured psychedelic body, teamed with a laidback navy suit. The looks were accompanied with the type of accessories that Zadeh built her brand with – shoes, boots, bags and jewellery that will undoubtedly feature on an innumerable amount of wishlists on both sides do the Atlantic.
