Kenzo Release Their SS19 Campaign, Photographed by David LaChapelle

KENZO-SS19-1

Both the young and the old hearts run free in Kenzo’s latest campaign, where colours are bold and energy is palpable. Shot by a legendary artist in his own right, photographer David LaChapelle, the images are capture still the utopian character of Kenzo’s clothes as designed by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the co-creative directors behind the brand. Shot at LaChapelle’s SS19 campaign, it’s the depiction of the world known as Kenzotopia, a place where where “streetscapes, urban apartments, and breathtaking outdoor scenes” blur into each other. Painted in true Technicolor, the models are joined by the fans of fashion like dancers, musicians and students, with an addition of the biggest star of them all – Humberto’s mum Wendy Lim.

But this ain’t just your regular campaign – for both Carol and Humberto, this marks a definite milestone. As big long-time fans of LaChapelle and his work, the images represent a highlight of both of theirs careers and lives. “Carol and I have definitely not been shy to talk about politics in our fashion collections, but this was really a season where we just wanted to celebrate and to enter a fantasy. That’s what David’s photography allows you to do is really let you travel to a different world. I feel like a big inspiration for the collection was to create this fantastical place that could be real, but isn’t,” said Humberto Leon of the collaboration. This passion and almost a childlike excitement about fashion – it all makes Kenzo the heritage brand with a big, bright future. And we’re all for it.
