The night falls down and the neon lights shine bright. Despite the late hour, the noise is that of the rush hour. It’s Tokyo, baby – and this tour is courtesy of Christopher Kane. For his Resort 2019 collection, the Scottish-born, London-based designer is taking his nympho muse to the other side of the world. She’s got only one night in Japan’s capital, and her suitcase is filled with some pretty fabulous gems. Continuing his run of erotic inspirations, Kane is now bringing the joy of sex clubs into the mix. There’s buckled choker dresses with big cutouts, myriads of revealing lace numbers and a solid dose of sarcasm – “shit happens” and “baby one more time” read jumpers and clutch bags, giving just about no space for imagination. At Christopher Kane – it’s a “what you see is what you get” kinda vibe. Add some heavy statement jewellery and a pair of hot-as-hell pins and we’re all about that life.
As the night turns into morning, the Kane girl layers up on her crystal-embroidered knitwear and bold coats. She might be confident in revealing her lace number, but she still likes to stay warm. Consider this the fashion-meets-function approach of 2019.
