Erika Cavallini: Ready-to-Wear SS19

Fresh-faced and draped in layers of earth-toned silk, the Erika Cavallini woman is up early and ready to go. Where? To the end of the world, with such a chic wardrobe. But her first destination is Cadaqués. The sleepy fishing village in the far North-East of Spain served as the main point reference in Cavallini’s SS19 collection. But don’t expect no fishing nets or nautical stripes. Oh, no. Erika Cavallini is much more intelligent than that. She imagines the Summer in Cadaqués (which also happens to be the name of the collection) as a much more elegant affair – with oversized silk suits, billowing jersey dresses and some pretty utilitarian Roman sandals. She’s a practical traveller, the Cavallini woman is. During her trip to Catalonia, she also buys vintage clay pottery, wraps them it with a leather strap and turns it into jewellery. It’s this pragmatic sort of creativity that serves itself to creating a clear vision of this modern-day feminine figure. Season after season, the Italian designer has been carving out her own niche in the industry. A strong, business-oriented woman who loves fashion, yet doesn’t live her way according to it. Pragmatically chic, you could call it. We call it utterly fabulous.
