July is known for being a pretty dead month in fashion. The men’s shows have just finished, some editors have gone on holiday, others are in the midst of wrapping up their magazines – us included. It’s a time where even a small piece of fashion goss will make the world go ‘round, let alone a flashy makeover and a bunch new pieces to spend our money on. Cue Dover Street Market’s AW18 look. One of our favourite shopping destinations that some Ten Towers members visit on a daily basis (we’re looking at you Richard) has just been given a freshening up and it’s as dreamy as you’d expect DSM to be. There’s a brand new installation as part of the Craig Green space down in the basement inspired by his AW18 show, while the fashion princess Simone Rocha’s new retail booth on the ground floor gives off true Victorian royal vibes – once again, perfectly in tune with the collection hanging inside. Up we go on the first floor where the timeless universe of Paul Harnden takes our breath away with a brand new foiled-over interior to go with a post-dystopian narrative that the brand has been nurturing for decades. Another flight of stairs and you’re shopping for the covetable Gucci homeware, and then on the top floor it’s another one of London’s design darlings playing the starring role. Molly Goddard’s last catwalk was all about girls having fun. Staged in a faux industrial kitchen, the whole show reminisced of the best after-parties, all of which include indulging in a bit of white carbs. Now, her DSM corner is filled with cherry red bags of rice – a reminder that once you’ve got a Molly dress on, you should still indulge in a three-course BYOB meal. With endless bits and bobs scattered between the mentioned highlights, this big fashion makeover is the proof that seasons might come and go, but Dover Street Market is eternal.
