KIM JONES AND VIRGIL ABLOH COLLABORATE WITH NIKE AND WE’RE ON BOTH TEAMS

Even though we still believe David Beckham is the prime example of the love affair that is fashion and football, if we’re judging by today’s breaking news – it looks like he’s getting some serious competition. The two giants of contemporary menswear, Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh have just released the first visuals for each of their football collections with Nike. And the outcomes look – totally expectedly – iconic. Completely different and absolutely in tune with each of their aesthetics, the two collections are giving us a chance to look at football with a fresh set of eyes. With Off-White x Nike, it’s all about Virgil’s childhood memories colliding with what we imagine a footballer looks like, combining the brand’s recognisable visual cues with well-known sportswear cliché and creating a capsule collection that totally fits in every hypebeast’s wardrobe. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Kim Jones approached the collaboration as an experiment in sportswear construction. Throwing it back to his early days as part of Fashion East, Kim decided to take simple silhouettes and only slightly subvert them towards the territory of fashion. It’s the ultimate hybrid between the two categories – and we can see both the extreme sportsmen and the fashion week crowds wearing the looks. And now we have to wait – Nike x Kim Jones drops on June 7, and Nike x Off-White goes live June 14. Both just in time for dressing up and pretending you’re totally into the FIFA World Cup. Go team Fashion!
