Knitwear. We’re suddenly very taken with it again after Pringle of Scotland’s outing yesterday. Particularly fascinating is the concept of knitwear for hot weather – as designer Fran Stringer assured us, it’s “a thing.” Proof was the collection. This was knitwear that was light. Super light. Not quite as light as a feather, but pretty damn close. It was sheer. There was nipple. Knits were in nylon, viscose, cellulose, all sorts of tech-y stuff. All well and good, we get the point, but does it look nice? Yes. A loose, willowy silhouette that sort of tied around the model’s bodies, toggle fastenings adding a sportier shape, blanket-style cardigans lent a typically British touch. But there was a nice rawness to it – yarns came undone along the hemline, hems were left unstitched. Which felt modern. And where Pringle should be.
