“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman” is, among countless others, a line of edifying brilliance courtesy of Madame Chanel, who, on the 19th of this month, would have turned 134. In anticipation, Chanel have unveiled the print ad campaign of their newest fragrance, Gabrielle Chanel – a celebration of the extraordinary personality, strength and indelible influence that is Coco Chanel’s legacy.
The message behind the frag is simple, and invites the young women of today to live freely, by and for themselves. Shot by Karim Sadli, Chanel muse Kristen Stewart cuts the sort of bold and impassioned feminine look that we think Coco Chanel was referring to when she said, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous”. The accompanying film, which was directed by Ringan Ledwidge, will be released by the end of the year – a vague deadline if ever we heard one, but we’re on tenterhooks already.
