Matthew Miller: Menswear SS18

Good news, Garth went into a church and didn’t melt, though he did consider a little cat wash on the way in. Wash the sins off. Which, on the topic of degenerates – degeneration was also the theme of Matthew Miller’s SS18 show. Or, in the words of the release – “the process of degenerating, the condition or state of being a degenerate.” Okay, so the clothes. Let’s call it a brutal elegance. We stole that from the release by the way, but it’s pretty much on the money – this fusing together of clean-cut military shapes – utility vests, skimpy bombers, adjustable straps with something way more refined. Most of that was down to the fabrications – this rich jacquard camo-fabric that looked super expensive, scarves made from Japanese silk or the floating layers of tulle. The tuxedo was was at play here too, emphasising a lean silhouette. Models were finished off with a slick of lippy, just to the side of the mouth.
