Kenzo junkies, such as we, will be delighted to receive what we’ll call a “part two” of last week’s news that the Parisian house will be launching their own zine, Kenzo Folio#1. Each issue of the mini mag will celebrate different voices from around the world – the first of those coming from Nigeria, where filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr. has curated a project based around the concept of “Ceremony”, working with photographer Ruth Ossai and stylist Ibrahim Kamara to capture the country’s Nsukka population in Kenzo’s new collection. The “part two” comes in the form of today’s word that alongside the zine Kenzo will be hosting a pop-up gallery of the work in their Bruton street store, showcasing the a special from by Akinola and Ruth’s images. “It’s about Nigerians telling their own stories,” says Akinola. “It’s about the nuances of beauty in relation to their own community. Capturing our Nigerian community showing a commitment to redefining and celebrating culture, showing the textures of a community in celebration of itself.” And, whilst you are in the store it would be very rude not to sample (translation: buy) Kenzo’s latest wares. How many credit cards can you split a single purchase between?
Kenzo Folio#1 runs from 27th April – 10th May at KENZO, 31 Bruton St, Mayfair, London W1J 6HH
