An excuse to loiter in a park after hours without being asked to move along (“just waiting for a friend, officer”) – the Frieze Art Fair will set up home in Regent’s Park again this year. And, in celebration, they are ditching the white walls in favour of greener pastures, setting up an outdoor sculpture gallery in the park. Peruse some large works of art, roll around in the grass – all with a cooling summer-evening breeze to keep those pits dry. The park-cum-gallery will showcase 23 sculptures from a handful of heavyweight names, including Gary Hume, Michael Craig Martin, Thomas J Price, Anthony Caro, Eduardo Paolozzi (his show at Whitechapel is not to be missed) and Craig Martin’s giant red wheelbarrow, one of the forecasted favourite.s “I can’t wait to climb on it” says Jack, but you’re not allowed to climb on art, he knows that, he’s been told before. The event curator, Clare Lilley gave this appetite-whetting soundbite: “from the playful to the political, these 23 works explore contemporary sculpture’s material and technical dexterity, together with its social role and reflection on the human condition and our environment.” We’re excited and so should you be.

Frieze Sculpture takes place from 5 July to 8 October in Regent’s Park, and is free
