Inbox pinging with Cruise-based happenings today – adding to this morning’s news that Prada will present a Resort collection in Milan, we have also received word that Gucci have settled on the city of Florence to host their own Cruise collection, the place where it all began back in 1921. The show itself will take place in the Palatina Gallery in Pitti Palace (above), the first time that a fashion show has ever been held in this part of the building. There are charitable happenings afoot too – Gucci also announced that they will donate a cool two mill (euros) for the restoration of the Boboli Gardens in the city, gardens that date back to the 16th century. Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, said this afternoon: “this collaboration represents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and sustain Florence’s cultural splendour and I would like to thank all the institutions that are involved. Gucci is a global brand with strong roots in Florence. The success we have achieved in recent years through the vision of our Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, is reliant upon the skills, spirit of innovation, passion and abilities of the craftspeople and everyone else who works for the brand in Florence and the surrounding area.” As of the show itself, we are promised an “sensory journey” through the “marvels of the Renaissance”. Oh em gee. Smell the opulence!
