It’s safe to say the world has taken a serious collective shine to the cast of Moonlight. Even before the Oscars tried to outdo Steve Harvey with their shambolic attempt to award Best Picture, the quartet were getting just about every plaudit going for their performances in the film. And yes, we’ve actually see it. For once. It’s no surprise, then, that the four have been snapped up by Calvin Klein to front their latest underwear campaign. On which note – I think it’s fair to say that I’m not the only one at Ten Towers who’s quite happy with the prospect of seeing more of Trevante Rhodes in his briefs. Calvin’s Creative Director (and Raf’s right-hand man) Pieter Mulier had a bit more of a cerebral take on things, though, saying, “since the beginning, Calvin Klein’s underwear imagery has always made big statements about masculinity; the performances of these actors in Moonlight affected us deeply and made big statements about masculinity in a different way. Somehow we wanted to bring the two together.” Raf himself agreed – “it’s an acknowledgement of remarkable actors who are revealing something important of being a man today in what they do”. The series of ten distinct advertising images, photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Oliver Rizzo, will appear in the coming months. Lucky lucky us.
