Bow down to Queen Neophitou and her gang of Victoria’s Secret superhumans, who, last night, took the collective breath away of the entire world (probably), when they glided down the runway in all their shiny, sparkling glory at The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016. Because, unless you have been under a rock or on some sort of self-imposed social media blackout, you’ll know that the show was in Paris this year, transforming the Grand Palais into a pink, supermodel-filled wonderland, complete with the most showstopping outfits on the planet. Officially. It is, after all, the biggest show on earth. And, that’s not to mention the musical accompaniment coming courtesy of Lady Gaga, the Weeknd and Bruno Mars. Obviously being Gagz megafans, we were, to put it lightly, floored. Massive congratulations from Ten Towers to all involved – Sophia, the VS Collections Creative Director, of course, the rest of the VS team, as well as Eddie Borgo, who created the showstopping fantasy bra, Brian Atwood who satiated all our shoe fetishes, Nicola Formichetti who lent his talents to the Pink Nation section and Serkan Cura, who sprinkled the whole thing with his magical fashion touch. Now, let’s dissect those themes. Because, well – they were bloody great. Sophia, how much can you smuggle back on the Eurostar? You promised!
The Road Ahead
First things first. Shut your eyes. Or don’t, just look at the images above. Because this was a journey to far off lands. A road to El Dorado that paved not with gold, but Angels. Which is better, non? Who needs gold when you have, instead, buckets of beautiful ladies in stunning outfits? Think of this as an ode to the cultural richness of these lands, rich with craftwork, like those gawj hand-painted fabrics or those oh-so-intricate embellishments. It was enough to make our eyes, quite literally, pop out of our heads. Which was a bit embarassing. As Sophia said, it was all about. “embracing this multicultural dialogue we wanted to have, about the techinques, the colours, the fabrics.” Fabuloso!
Secret Angel
Come into my boudoir, we imagine this lady would whisper seductively in an unsuspecting gent’s ear. Because this section was a sensual tale in black and white. Movies, that is. Dangerous Liasons, Casablanca. Call her a femme fatale, or, in the more knowlegable words of our Editrix-in-Chief, “she’s a seductress that holds no prisoners. She’s a strong entity.” And who better to provide the musical accompaniment than the sultry tones of the Weeknd?
Mountain Romance
Hallo Heidi! By which we are, of course, referring to the children’s book character, you know – the one who sashays about the Alps, possibly yodelling. No yodelling here, thankfully, but instead, a much more pleasurable selection of Alpine beauties strutted the catwalk, led out by a most fabulous walkout from the amazing Lady Gaga. Dead. But anyway, back to the girls. Well, they were like lovely little wildflowers blowing in the breeze, or something similarly outdoorsy. We don’t know, we haven’t ventured out of roofed buildings since 1972. But this has inspired frolick upon the hills. These ladies are tempting. Over to Sophia: “There’s a playful naiviety to the girl. A bit of a Heidi on the hill. Of all the sections, I feel like she’s the most feminine. A free spirited, outdoorsy girl.”
Pink Nation
Pink Nation was dreamt up by the wonderful Nicola Formichetti, the man behind Nicopanda and all round bestie of 10 Magazine. Which meant it was filled with all those nuts things that he dreams up in that big old brain of his. It was sporty. But not gymwear. Think: young, sexy, dynamic. “What we bring is just a hint of street culture, global fashion sense and we mix in fantasies and real clothing all together. Fantasy and fun,” said Nicola. Our fav look? Those dog bags, obviously. That’s a lewk. Woof!
Dark Angel
Oooft! This lady is sexy. With a capital S. Sexy. A bit goth. But like afforementioned goth had been given a good clean and a sensual makeover. She was clothed in shades of nighttime darkness. Wicked and playful. Which makes her, handily, our kind of lady. You need to watch your back with this one. “Harder, sexier a bit more gothic in its idea. Super sexy, a dark seductress,” says Sophia. Enough to make a lady clothe herself solely in black, especially after that ah-mazing walkout from Taylor Hill and her mahoosive black wings. Dead!
Bright Night Angel
On to the spectacular finale – Bright Night Angel. If we were to have a spirit angel, it would be she. The Bright Night Angel. Why? She’s a party girl. We are party girls (slash boys). She’s the sort of lady who stays up all night, looking just as radiant in the morning as she did the evening before (note: in fact, nothing like us, we look like shit and absolutely nothing like these bejewelled beauties). As Sophia says, this is “the girl happiest having the best time she can. She engages in the whole carpe diem, I’m gonna embrace it, I’m gonna love it, I’m going to enjoy life the best I can.” Think of your most amazing night on the tiles, and then times it by 100. No, a million. Or, 3 million, which was, in fact, the price in dollars of the stunning Jasmine Tookes’ emerald green Fantasy Bra created by Eddie Borgo. Chills!
