Marco de Vincenzo: Ready-to-wear SS17

There’s a stripe love-in happening next season. And nowhere was this more apparent than at Marco de Vincenzo. But these aren’t your usual, classic, run-of-the-mill stripes. This is an elevated stripe. An evolution of, even. Yes, there’s a traditional stripe (how could there not be?), diagonal, alternating in widths, in bright jewel tone colours, or overlaid with a floral print, creating a sort of magic-eye type illusion where the florals float above them. Horizontal pleats are sliced open creating textured lines, little string bows appear in rows over ruffled camisole dresses and thick swathes of silk fringe are embroidered on to a delicate gauze to create shimmery dresses and coats in rich sea-toned hues. The diagonal line of the stripes is echoed in the ruffles that adorn the slits of skirts, or the arms of sheer blouses. Marco took his inspiration for this collection from a 1950s postcard of the Riviera he found, that appeared as a print on the hem of a masculine sleeveless coat and chiffon tops, the colour palette reflecting that of the entire collection. This was a slinky, fancy affair, bought down to earth in it’s pairing with appropriately adorned, luxe looking trainers.
