Mary Katrantzou: Ready-to-wear SS17

This season, Mary Katrantzou asked the question Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters first asked themselves in 1960-something, have you passed the acid test? Which considering that that this was a Grecian odyssey via 1960-thing the answer would be yes. The Grecian influence was felt in the prints, classic Greek symbols creating a trompe l’oeil effect on modish short sleeve tunics worn over kicky flared trousers. Longer strappy dresses were fitted and ruched, layered over tight op art tops rendering the op art even more optic by adding a sense of a third dimension to the graphic. Shifts of perspex paillettes shimmered not only with light but with sound. As the press release put it so accurately, this was “Thucydides and Clytemnestra on acid”.
