Gareth Pugh: Ready-to-wear SS17

Drama, drama, drama. From the music build up. And the clothes. Yesterday, Gareth Pugh premiered 60 costumes for Eliogabalo at the Palais Garnier opera in Paris, today he premiered his SS17 collection in London, and obviously his opera work is playing on his mind. This was dramatic, for want of a better word. Black, gold and exaggerated. Regal. Which shouldn’t be that surprising seeing as Eliogabalo is the story of a child emperor. Let’s call this design in which to sit a top a throne. From the strict black tailoring to the flowing purple silks designed it’d seemed with a Grecian goddess in mind, this was a show fit for a queen. Nothing less will do. All that was missing was a crown upon her head.
