A look back to Acne Studios AW12

AW12M-Acne-051

Warm leatherette. Or, rather, warm pleatherette. Well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Even though it can sometimes pale in comparison. Unless of course you’re Acne. And your “mood” word is “fake”. Fake was unexpected. When fake attacks, you don’t take it for fake. Take the leather jackets: black with a weird matt sheen and a shiny and lustrous fur mane at the collar. Fake and fake. It’s worn with black wool. Both on sweaters and trousers. The trousers are cropped. They reveal a white cotton sports sock in a shiny vinyl shoe. They hint at Michael Jackson. Moonwalking would be easier if everyone wore vinyl instead of leather on their feet. It’s not only the “fabric” choices that are interesting here, but the textures, too. The way they’re paired together, played off each other. Random. The way the layers shrink as each new one is added – what we like to call “the peeled-onion effect”. Which brings us back to the leather. That sheen we mentioned earlier, it’s the sheen of a freshly peeled onion. Slightly plasticky. Very modern.
