MAN: Menswear SS17

A three way of talented young designers in a university basement, or as Natalie referred to it – “a gorgy orgy”. What better way to spend a Friday afternoon? We are, of course, referring to MAN, presented by the always wonderful Fashion East and Topman. First up – Per Gotesson, fresh from his RCA graduate show last night (yes, last night) who showed his very first collection on a pile of old mattresses and bed sheets. It was a DIY approach apparently – plenty of denim, folded, draped and frayed, in a selection of roomy shapes. Masculine, hearty. Then, Beijing-born designer Feng Chen Wang, a kind of ode to the anorak, warped and tied around the body, held in place by toggle fastenings, transformed into something romantic, almost. Finally, Charles Jeffrey Loverboy (above), which opened with bags of salt (sand?) poured over the catwalk and then scattered with flowers, before being stopped on by a selection of what we’re going to call a homme fatale – all trench coats, sunglasses and kiss curls, before descending into into a riot of jangling keys, painted denim, chain mail and that final hellraiser headpiece. And some bananas. Bonkers, dishevelled, brilliant. Young talent. It’s delicious.
