Marques’Almeida: Ready-to-wear AW16

There’s a snippet of an interview instead of press notes at Marques’Almeida. “We wanted this collection to feel like normal clothes, like it tumbled out of and belongs to someone’s closet rather than in a store or on the rack”. These are clothes for real girls, or as they put it “the realistic”. So rather than create a look  around the idea of a girl, they’ve let girls, they’re friends, create they’re own looks using their designs, creating a series of, in a way, disparate separates and allowing their friends, who they used to walk in the show rather than models, put them together how they would wear them.  The result is an eclectic mishmash of brightly coloured sweatshirt jerseys, large nets, tie dye, wools, puffas and gingham, creating almost a patchwork of volume, or rather a wardrobe from which you’ve just pulled whatever and randomly put it on. And it works. Effortlessly. There’s something to be said for just letting go in a sense and seeing what happens. Things usually just tend to fall into place.
