“Nightmares and Dreams” was Raf Simons’ title for his autumn/winter 2016 show. We feel it was more of the latter than the former in the crunchy knits, the elephantine sweaters and cardies punctuated with Letterman typography and trailing beyond the knees, the slouchy oversized coats wrapped about the body, above cropped skinny trousers and weighty bovver boots. The crib sheet of references – David Lynch, Cindy Sherman, Martin Margiela – shone light on proceedings. But the eventual interpretation was a pure Raf riff.
