Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli seem a bit polished for travelling much. Then again, Mr Valentino himself voyaged pretty much constantly – admittedly between Gstaad, Tangiers, Paris and Rome, on a yacht or private jet. Travel isn’t always hard work. Modern Mr Valentinos – the blokes who wear the menswear bearing his Christian name – voyage in similarly impeccable style. For winter, they’re wearing Navaho blankets, patchy folk embroideries, Pacific Northwest traces. Oh, and lots of black. It travels well, you see.
