Andy Warhol is emerging as something of an unexpected, underground hero of the autumn/winter 2016 men’s collections. They was something very Warhol, after all, about the bloody Velvet Undergroundy blouses at Cavalli; and, come to think of it, there was velvet at Bottega – a label Warhol once confessed to buying his Christmas presents from. And didn’t Warhol like cowboys, a la Dolce? Few brands have a direct Warhol link though: Salvatore Ferragamo are lucky: creative director Massimiliano Giornetti took inspiration from Warhol’s paint-splattered, classic Ferragamo Oxfords, symbolising a mix of formality and relaxed artistry. They inspired flashes of bold pop colour – and of course, some painted shoes. Who wouldn’t want a Warhol or two at their feet?
