“Construct Deconstruct Reconstruct” were the three words that headed the Topman Design release for their Autumn/Winter 2016 show – the kick-start to not only London Collections: Men, but the men’s season as a whole. Accessible luxe is something we’re hearing an awful lot – and its accessibility is the appeal of Topman design – the fact that, in six months time, the clothes you’ve lusted after will hit shop floors at a decent price, allowing you, essentially, to reconstruct your wardrobe and include, say, a shredded sweatshirt or sweeping stonewash denim greatcoat like Bros cross-bred with Withnail. Obviously, deconstruction was a theme – but so was pyjama dressing with layers of silky satin crepe and panné velvet trouser suits. And speaking of a kick-start, the kicks – pony skin baseball sneakers embossed with flowers – were pretty kicking in themselves.
