Working behind the lens might leave your own outfits in the shadows, but we’ve regularly taken note of how well attired this special friend of 10 Men always appears.
What are you wearing?
“An un-pressed Band of Outsiders shirt.”
How about what’s not visible? Cologne/hair product/boxers or briefs? Any of the aforementioned you would care to share?
“Share underwear? Okay, hair, Kiehl’s Creme with Silk Groom. Cologne, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. Underwear, American Apparel briefs. Make-up, Pat McGrath, just kidding, she’s a genius.”
What’s your greatest fashion luxury?
“A cashmere Lucien Pellat-Finet tank that I gave away to a cool neighbour girl because I washed it and it shrank up into an unfortunate Barbie midriff. It was kind of great while it lasted. RIP softness.”
Are you a carry-on or excess-baggage kind of man?
“Excess. Mostly camera stuff and things I never wear.”
What’s your biggest sartorial turn-on?
“I know it when I see it.”
How do you dress to impress?
“That’s your job, 10! Make me over, I dare you.”
What’s your hangover/out-for-a-pint-of-milk look?
“See portrait.”
Are you, or have you ever been, part of a scene?
“Oh, many, many scenes. I played a long-haired convict wearing an authentic orange prison jumpsuit in a blockbuster pornographic film called Jawbreaker. I was also in a scene as a passenger on a jumbo jet and the boyfriend of a guy who cheated on me repeatedly, having sex while I slept through the flight. Almost a documentary.”
What do you love about menswear today?
“Two Shipley & Halmos shirts I found. I always get complimented on them.”
What’s missing from menswear today?
“The neighbourhood store where I got those shirts closed. Confederacy in Silverlake, I miss you.”
Are you part of the zeitgeist?
“This is a weird time – haven’t you noticed? Wouldn’t claim that. Ever.”
What’s your earliest memory/concept of style?
“My grandmother Daisy, when I was about three years old, wearing a black and red rose-patterned super-tight 1960s dress. She was in a parking lot next to a blue Electra 225 – that’s a car. It was an outfit that would look really great for twisting or doing a bossa nova in and it probably did.”
Who is your ultimate style icon?
“A drifter I saw walking in my neighbourhood with a one-of-a-kind handmade patchwork and beautifully sewn tote. I could never really explain how good it was. I assume it held all that was important to him at the time, and he made it. I wish I had photographed it. It was really good.”
The true measure of a man is?
“Done by an accurate tailor in this context.”
