Have you ever worn a leather coat? I have. It makes you feel like The One (in the Matrix sense). It’s a great feeling. Unsurprisingly. A feeling, I can only imagine, that would be made all the greater if the leather coat in question was by Rodolfo Paglialunga for Jil Sander. It was a leather trench coat to be more specific, made of leather so soft, so buttery, that it looks like you could cut it with a knife. But soft, buttery leather wasn’t all Paglialunga gave us yesterday in his first collection for Jil Sander. He gave us a collection, masculine and minimalist, that stayed true, wholeheartedly faithful, to the brand’s DNA. It was a collection that reminded us that minimalist doesn’t correlate to monochrome. Highly considered, highly select colours were used that worked beautifully together. Particularly in the case of the roll-neck and crew-neck jumpers which were layered on top of each other: sky blue and dark teal, dark teal and saffron, saffron and crimson – satisfying combinations if ever there were ones. Aside from this, there was a new trouser shape: oversized – a size much to big for the models’ small frames, belted around their waists and extending over their shoes (RIP the ankle-swinger). Though baggy, these trousers were nonetheless very elegant. A great collection and one that this Tenner and long-term fan of the brand liked, very muchly.
