10 Questions With Faff As They Gear Up To Play Field Maneuvers

You’re in for quite the treat if you’re on the dancefloor when Faff are behind the decks. Made up of DJ and production duo Elliot and Orny, the twosome are mainstays on London’s queer clubbing scene. From Dalston Superstore‘s basement to the storied tunnels of the legendary Fabric, the pair have graced each corner of the capital with their infectious blends of euphoric house.

As residents of Big Dyke Energy, the FLINTA-focused South London club night – which has played host to DJs such as Sherelle, Isabella and Peach – the duo have recently launched a record label and mix series under the same name. Here they’ve released some of their best work yet, like “Heatstroke”, the bass-heavy wobbler made with DJ Submarine FM.

They’re set to test out their most recent floorfillers at Field Maneuvers festival this summer. The “no thrills rave” has garnered a reputation as one of the UK’s best intimate festivals. With a capacity of less than 1000 revellers, the decade-old party, which always has a secret location, will stage its final festival in its current format, with the likes of Josey Rebelle, Ben Sims, Taahliah and THC sharing the bill with Faff in what’s going to be a pretty unforgettable weekend for dance music.

Before they pack their record bag and head off into that field, we caught up with Faff for a quick fire round of Qs.

1. Who are Faff?

We’re a musical duo and husbands called Elliott and Orny.

2. Describe your sound in 10 words or less?

Fun, sad, slow, fast, silly, serious, nostalgic, futuristic, soft, rough.

3. If your sound came with a scent, what would it smell like?

Sweat, fags and petals.

4. What can we expect from your upcoming set at Field Maneuvers?

An energetic, sunshine filled power hour of love <3.

5. What makes this festival so great?

The people who run it, the people who attend and the music. It’s a weekend we look forward to every year where all of our mates and strangers alike get together to have a really silly goofy weekend with loads of amazing music. It’s simple and stripped back, just a small field with some speakers and your pals.

6. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen from behind the decks?

There is a lot of context to this story, but long story short, one of the weirdest and funniest things we’ve experienced was during our set at FM two years ago when our friend was on stage with us dangling a fishing rod over the decks with a fish purse attached to the end of it which had a USB inside it with a particular fish song on there which they requested we played. We did and it went down a treat (thanks Ciara).

7. What three essentials are in your festival bum bag?

No bag, just thongs and cheese strings and pepperamis.

8. If you were to curate the line-up for the next Field Maneuvers, which three acts would you have on the bill?

Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa times three.

9. What essentials are on your rider?

Coconut water, Klub Mate and a basket of kittens.

10. What can we expect from you guys for the rest of 2024?

Lots of lovely releases on BDE Records (including some of our own tunes), our first album showcasing a new side to our sound which will include a live set and our first music video.
