10 Questions with GiGiFM As She Releases Her New EP ‘Shelter Our Time’

Mystical DJ and producer GiGi FM is entering a new chapter. Releasing a brand new EP titled Shelter Our Time, out today via Sea-rène – the artist’s own imprint which launched in 2023 as a platform for dreamlike electronic music – the five-track odyssey marks the first time GiGi FM has explored drum and bass production.

First cutting their teeth on the underground scene South London squat raves, the Paris-born artist now resides in Berlin, where movement and emotional exploration have become paramount to their sonic creations. Seeking to inspire healing through their music, GiGiFM’s sound has become a vessel for vulnerability and a revelation of the inner self. Despite its liquid drum and bass muscle (GiGiFM is best known for her techno productions, most recently with the 2025 EP Virgo Space Acid), Shelter Our Time possesses the same freeing, resonant qualities born from her introspection. It’s turn the volume up, immerse yourself and let your body and mind collide type music. “It’s about learning to hold joy and pain in the same body and choosing to keep dancing anyway,” says the artist.

Professionally trained as a dancer, GiGiFM is drawn to songs that centre the body – a theme that’s integral to the production of this EP. In its most literal manifestation, the artist has included her own voice in the tracks for the first time. Continuing on her journey of self-discovery, lyrics she’s written also come to the forefront for the first time.

The opening track, titled Neptune, evokes an image of a glittering, vast ocean, encouraging a somewhat meditative, beatific state, before pulling you into the rest of the project. Following this are tracks like the eponymous Shelter Our Time, a slow-building, expansive roller rooted in GiGiFM’s first love – jungle. The project concludes with Pacific – a energetic, percussive finale that signals the artist’s personal evolution showcased throughout the record.

Here, we speak to GiGiFM more about the new record, her favourite place to grab a drink in South London and if she could sign one artist to Sea-rène, dead or alive, who it would be.

1. Who is GiGi FM?

Well, according to my own mythology, an intergalactic mermaid moving between music, poetry and movement. I’ve always been fascinated by the space between things – between genres, emotions, people, inner worlds and dance floors. Art is probably my way of exploring all of that and making sense of the world around me.

2. What is one main thing you learned when working on Shelter Our Time?

That vulnerability can be a strength. This record taught me that sometimes the most powerful thing is simply saying what you actually feel.

3. This EP marks the first time you have produced DnB – describe this new era of sound in three words?

Emotional, aquatic, liberating.

4. What’s your favourite place in South London to grab a drink?

I miss Rye Wax dearly. It was this wonderful record shop, bar, club and community space that always felt full of life, and I also worked there for some time. These days I’d probably say Skehan’s for a good Guinness, and [it’s] not in the South but a big ‘go to’ for me is the Dalston Superstore for a vibey catch up with friends.

5. You are releasing Shelter Our Time under your own label, Sea-rène. Who is an artist you would love to have signed, dead or alive?

Alive, Björk 100 per cent. She has spent her entire career creating her own universe without compromise and that’s something I deeply admire. Dead, Jon Hassell. His music has been a profound inspiration to me and completely changed the way I think about atmosphere, storytelling and sound.

6. Where in Berlin do you tend to go for musical inspiration?

This is such a difficult question! It could be my local park, Tempelhof, cycling through the city or simply walking without a destination. I find Berlin deeply inspiring. I also have a particular love for water and willow trees, so anywhere I can find those!

7. We know that you are influenced by astrology – tell us a fun fact about your star sign/chart?

I’m a Virgo Sun, Sagittarius Moon and Libra Rising. Most people guess Sagittarius before Virgo, which honestly feels fair. Astrologically speaking, I’m basically programmed to fall in love with ideas, people, places and possibilities, which is completely spot on. I’m a huge romantic when it comes to life. It’s wonderful for creativity but, mixed with ADHD, it’s absolutely terrible for sticking to a plan. Spontaneity is definitely my bestie. Hahaha.

8. What’s your fave track off Shelter Our Time? How does it make you feel?

This is impossible – they’re all my beloved babies! It honestly changes every day or week. Right now it’s probably Neptune, which feels like the opening of a portal – the moment you dive beneath the surface and enter another world.

9. Who are your top three DnB tracks?

This is so difficult there is so many tracks that I love and play on repeat. Three of those in no particular order:

AquariusWaveforms

GoldieInner City Life

Nookie ft. Larry HeardMoments In Space

10. What can GiGi FM fans look forward to next?

Many things! More poetry and singing, plenty of new sonic explorations, storytelling and immersive experiences.
