10 People To Meet Diplo

His eyes seem permanently heavy with sleep. Which shouldn’t come as a surprise.

When you’re a world-renowned, massively in demand DJ and producer who is constantly shuttling between time zones, working in the wee small hours and somehow still making time to be a father, getting some shuteye might be  a little tricky. But it lends rather well to his already laissez-faire, too-cool look. It’s part of his downtown LA attitude that, despite actually originally hailing from the Deep South, he just naturally exudes.

How long have you lived in LA?

“Four years”

What’s your favourite thing to do in LA?

“Go to the park with my son, or work in the studio.”

How would you define yourself?

“I’m looking up the definition of myself right now.”

Why did you decide to do what you want to do?

“I’m not good at a lot of other things. In fact, I don’t know if I’m even good at music. I’m just really having fun doing it”

What do you do to relax?

“Sleep.”

What do you do for fun?

“Sleep.”

Is there anything you would like to do but never seem to have the time?

“Sleep.”

What is the most ridiculous rumour you’ve heard about yourself? Is it true?

“That I have herpes and five kids and a wife and that I’m gay – none of these is true.”

Have you arrived?

“I’m on my way.”

Have you been Disneyland? What was your favourite ride?

“Disneyland only once, but Disney World Florida, like, 10 times with my parents. It’s really cheap for locals.”

Health food or champagne?

“Whichever one is free.”
