Tomorrow, critically acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Sampha will release his sophomore album, Lahai. Back in 2017, the South Londoner’s debut album, Process, bagged him the prestigious Mercury Prize, described by The Guardian as “an album that skilfully balances light and shade”, as the artist grieved the death of his mother. On Lahai (dropping tomorrow), Sampha – who has previously worked with the likes of Solange, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar – is sonically at his most expansive. The album is Sampha’s first work since becoming a father. Its title is borrowed from his own nickname which he shares with his grandfather. Although they never met, Sampha told the New York Times that he wanted the album to “embody the kind of stateliness and verve that he imagined his grandfather had”.
For the album’s official trailer, the artist turned to Zegna’s Alessandro Sartori for a quietly elegant wardrobe consisting of a white printed linen shirt with a plunging neckline and trousers to match, as well as a Oasi Cashmere overshirt paired with terracotta-hued wool foliage trousers. Throughout, Sampha wears the brand’s signature triple stitch shoes.
