Yaku: Ready-To-Wear AW26

It’s hard to pen a Yaku show succinctly because once you step inside, a whole world unfurls. The London-based designer, who is currently supported by the BFC New Gen programme, has been building his retro futuristic, video game inspired world for the past few seasons, brick by brick. With his band of loyal followers, who hand out badges and flyers and sell graphic tees, his well-constructed narrative has entered its seventh chapter, or AW26, as it’s commonly known between fash friends.

Entitled The Possible Family Reunion in RPG Space, the offering leaned on the brand’s go-to codes but with a flare for the dramatic. Dressed in oversized hoodies and rounded, moon-boot-like stompers, the models-cum-actors pulsed, popped, split and posed their way down the runway in a catwalk-like structure, despite Yaku being booked on the schedule for a presentation. It was smart – the Yaku team organised rough installments, so they could technically do a show multiple times over. It’s to be expected, Yaku is smart. You can see it in the details. Spikey game consoles, Bowser-esque backpacks, bow and arrows, faceless warriors suspended from the ceiling – the young talent knows how to tell a rich story. And AW26 left us keen to turn the page to find out what’s next.
