Oh, Glenn Martens… Nothing makes us happy like some smart, shoppable and all-round fabulous fashions. Cue Y/Project SS19. There’s the first ever Y/Project bag line, a pair of sunglasses in collab with Linda Farrow, a whole new style of shoe… And that’s only the accessories. The intelligent clothes Martens design surpass the depth of the conceptual ideas behind them, they actually go on to become wearable pieces of street fashion that many desire. A great example were the trouser-skirt hybrids, manipulating simple lines into a mish-mash of volume and bodycon. There were also the v-shaped trousers, multi-layered dresses, and the signature bunched-up boots… It all looked somewhat wrong, but oh, SO very right.
It’s a fabulous magical power Martens holds in his hands. Like a fashion alchemist, he gives traditional dressing codes and stereotypes a whole new light, recreating avant-garde and making it wearable. Without giving in on his vision, he pushes the way we look at clothes and creates a world of clothes ready for stores worldwide. With so many tricks up his sleeve, Glenn Martens is the man to look out for. We’re under his spell.
