Another day, another spectacle. For a fashion week that was recently considered to become worryingly scarce, NYFW keeps coming up with some pretty major shows that will go down in fashion history. Last night, it was Tommy Hilfiger who worked with woman of the hour Zendaya for the second time round. After Comédie & Studio des Champs-Élysées in Paris last season, the power duo took the fashion troupes to the makeshift set outside the legendary Apollo Theatre in NYC. The significance of the location can’t (and shouldn’t) be ignored – the Apollo is known as one of the homes of the Harlem Renaissance and its great focus on black artists and communities throughout its long history.
Demonstrating black excellence on the catwalk last night, Zendaya infused the Americana vision of Hilfiger with the heavy beat of music from the days gone by. Like the global audience got to experience – both online through immersive VR and in real life – this was a time capsule that took us all the way back to the disco days. From party dresses to high tailoring in unexpected fabrics, all modelled by an impressive cast demonstrating all kinds of beauty. This was inclusivity in its broadest term, showing off how great clothes can look on people that are confident and having fun. And honouring the true spirit of inclusivity – Zendaya and Tommy made sure you don’t have to wait to shop these pieces. All of the #TommyXZendaya collection is available to shop now, both online and in stores.
