Giorgio Armani Privé: Couture AW22

“The message is one of joy and pleasure, frivolity even,” Giorgio Armani said of his autumn/winter 2022 Privé show. With its sparkly lightness, the haute couture collection was loosely inspired by the 1920s and the work (and character) of the artist Tamara de Lempicka, “a strong-willed, rebellious, independent woman who was much ahead of her time.” Armani said we need the lightness and joie de vivre of the 1920s in this moment in time, “because fashion can make us dream and escape to a better place.” He presented an elongated, linear silhouette that he covered in glistening and light-refracting surface decorations, which – alongside his blues and pinks – evoked the colours of seascapes. “This collection reflects a mindset that goes toward timelessness, beauty, and the need to create something very special for our clients. I think that what I do with my ready-to-wear collections is always real, but with my haute couture, I like to experiment and add a dash of magic. And this balance between reality and magic perfectly reflects my state of mind in this moment.”
